Plant Facts

Umbrella plants prefer bright, indirect light and can even tolerate some exposure to direct sunlight. Your plant will survive in lower light environments, but growth will be slowed and it may become leggy.

Watering Needs

Water your Umbrella Plant thoroughly in a well-draining pot – ideally with a peat-moss based soil. Allow the soil to dry out before watering again. Schefflera are more tolerant to drying out than to overwatering.

Humidity

Your plant will do just fine in an average household humidity level, however they prefer more humid environments. Consider misting the plant occasionally or placing it in close proximity to a tray of water filled with pebbles to increase humidity.

Temperature Preferences

Schefflera are quite cold tolerant, and are happy anywhere in the 55 degree to 75 degree range. Below 55 degrees they risk loosing leaves, and your plant will experience greater growth in warmer temperatures.

Fertilizer

Umbrella Plants are light feeders, so you only need to fertilize once a month in the spring and summer with half of the recommended strength or a diluted fertilizer.

Pet-Friendly

Schefflera are toxic to pets, and can cause vomiting and oral irritation.
